10 | Please Please Please : Sabrina Carpenter Feat. Dolly Parton
The original version of the song was released in 2024 and then Sabrina rereleased the track as a duet with Dolly Parton to coincide with the release of the deluxe edition of her acclaimed album, Short n' Sweet. The addition of an acoustic guitar, fiddle, and Dolly’s harmonies elevate the song to a whole new level of fabulous.
9 | Heart’s A Liar : Andy Bell Feat. Debbie Harry
This song, which has been described as “dark disco confession” is one of the highlights on Andy Bell’s Ten Crowns album. It flawlessly blends synth-pop with the emotional weight of heartbreak. Debbie Harry's gorgeously gritty vocals provide a perfect counterpoint to Andy's powerful, heartfelt delivery, resulting in a fabulous listening experience.
8 | Dopamine : Robyn
A later release this year but this blissful banger from Robyn (her first solo release in seven years) was an instant favorite. Andrew Trendell from NME describes the track as “a classic dose of bittersweet Robyn synth-pop euphoria; a subtle neon rush of aching and want”.
7 | Every Girl You’ve Ever Loved : Miley Cyrus Feat. Naomi Campbell
A stylish disco meets pop meets house production featuring an iconic spoken word section by Naomi Campbell. Ky Stewart from Junkee highlights how Miley’s vocals “soar over a saxophone dance beat” before the song “turns into a gay electronic trance anthem reminiscent of Madonna’s Vogue and Gaga’s Babylon”.
6 | CUNTISSIMO : MARINA
I love Marina’s Princess Of Power album from its first song to the closing track. CUNTISSIMO is a camp, feel-good anthem that hooked me from the orchestral string intro and had me dancing once the catchy beat drops. Sure, the lyrics might not be the most compelling but when you’ve got loads of cuntissimo, who needs deep lyrics?
5 | Vertigo : Sophie Ellis-Bextor
My favorite track from Sophie’s latest album, Perimenopop. It’s an electro-pop banger featuring swirling strings, a dramatic bridge and a high energy tempo that all come together to mirror the dizzying effects of being in love.
4 | Shook : Sugababes
While everyone was bemoaning the absence of a “song of summer” this year, I was telling them that Sugababes had it taken care of with Shook. It’s a synth-pop banger with the trio’s signature harmonies and electrifying energy. My favorite lines: “Do you wanna dance to Madonna? / Hold my hand, let's reach for Nirvana / Don't wanna play it safe / Say my name, boy, you should taste it”.
3 | Crème Brûlée : David Archuleta
A silky smooth and sultry offering from David Archuleta with flirty lyrics and sexy disco-funk undertones that is a reflection of his newfound confidence in himself and his sexuality. I still find myself singing the song at random times and I’m not mad about it (Yo te vuelvo loco, loco).
2 | The Fate Of Ophelia : Taylor Swift
I am still infatuated with the first single from The Life of a Showgirl, a song which broke Spotify records for the most streams in a single day and became the fastest song to reach 100 million streams. The song’s irresistible melody, its impeccable production and spectacular music video showcasing top-tier choreography make it a standout for me.
Gaga’s triumphant return to dark dance-pop was a case of obsession at first listen. With its pulsating rhythm, catchy chorus, and powerful, nuanced vocals, the spellbinding track is a standout—and the video is equally spectacular. Her performance of the song on the Mayhem Ball Tour was one of my top concert highlights this year.
