7 Reasons to visit the Mojo Market

Plenty of Mojo

The Mojo Market in Sea Point is fairly new on the Cape Town market scene.  The market is part of the Mojo Hotel and, unlike most markets, is open 7 days a week.  Mojo's official website describes the market as "a hybrid and eclectic mix of 45 designer retail stalls, a daily fresh goods section and 25 food vendors".  I visited Mojo for the first time this past weekend and I was most impressed.  Here are seven reasons to visit the market:

1.  Location Location Location -  Mojo is located on Regent Road in Sea Point so it is easily accessible and, although parking on Regent is always a problem, there are several side streets where you can safely park your car.  Alternatively, there is a MyCiti stop right outside the building.  After the market, take a stroll along Regent Road and explore some of the other interesting shops and restaurants on the way, inter alia Bootlegger Coffee Company, Crumbs and Cream (for amazing ice-cream sandwiches), Dooby Scoo (toy shop) and Luv Land (if you are looking for toys of the adult variety).

2.  The Views - Inside the market there are several booths and tables positioned at floor to ceiling windows that offer stunning views of the ocean and promenade.  However, if you are a little more superficial, the views of the pretty (and fit) residents of Sea Point will certainly enhance your Mojo experience.

3.  Seating - Unlike many markets in Cape Town, Mojo offers visitors plenty of seating including an upstairs section that was completely empty when I visited.  So you can enjoy your food and drinks in comfort instead of squeezing past crowds to find a ledge on which to perch.

4.  Variety - You are spoiled for choice when it comes to something to eat and drink, with several vendors offering anything from chicken wings and sushi to pizza and authentic South African cuisine.  Similarly, there are plenty of beverages available, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic.  In fact, it is advisable to walk around a couple of times to check out what is on offer before making a decision - everything looks and smells so good!  Besides food, there are also many goods to purchase - clothing, shoes, accessories, gifts and trinkets - so if you're looking for a unique gift for someone or you simply want to treat yourself, you are guaranteed to find what you are looking for.

5.  WiFi - Yes yes, I know, you should be focusing on the market experience instead of being distracted by your phone, but the availability of WiFi is a plus in my book, especially when you have a limited data plan (insert sad face).  It also means you are able to Instagram or Tweet pics of the fantastic fare at the market.

6.  Mallow Snaps - While there are many decadent sweet treats available for anyone with a sweet tooth (brownies, cupcakes, fudge, biscuits), these heavenly chocolate-coated marshmallows stood out; they are hands down the lightest marshmallows I've ever tasted.  If you only have one (I dare you to limit yourself to one), be sure to try the milktart flavour.

7.  Entertainment - Unfortunately I did not stay for the entertainment but there is a small stage in the seating area with a line-up of artists who will be performing displayed on the wall.  What better way to spend a Saturday or Sunday afternoon: with a chilled drink, mouth-watering food and local entertainment.
