Kids in a Candy Store

According to CandyStore.com, one of the most popular kinds of Halloween candy in NY is Sour Patch Kids - the colourful chewy candy covered in sour sugar.  The original Sour Patch Kids flavours were lime (green), lemon (yellow), orange (orange), raspberry (red) - blue raspberry (blue) was added in 2014.  The candy has seen various iterations in different countries including Sour Patch Kids Extreme, Sour Patch Kids Gum, Sour Patch Kids Heads and Sour Patch Tricksters.  Lately these "sour then sweet" kids have been popping up everywhere you look, most recently appearing in Chips Ahoy cookies, ice cream and even breakfast cereal!  Their commercials are also super fun.

And now NYC has its very own brick-and-mortar Sour Patch Kids Store, located at 665 Broadway in NoHo, offering visitors "wall-to-wall sour then sweet awesomeness".  Visitors can fill a tin with their choice of flavours or buy prepackaged bags of the addictive little candies.  There is a snack bar with an OTT menu that includes includes:

The Waffle-licious (Sour Patch Kids Ice cream on a waffle, with sour cotton candy, Sour Patch Kids Bitz, Sour Patch Flavoured drizzle, whipped cream, Sour Patch Kids bark, mini raspberry chocolate cups and a marshmallow Kid);

Rainbows, Cakes and Shakes, Oh My! (Sour Patch Kids milkshake topped with a slice of rainbow cake, Sour Patch Kids Bitz, whipped cream and a marshmallow Kid) and

Pour Some Sugar on Us (Sour Patch Kids ice cream in a waffle cone, topped with Sour Patch Kids Bitz, sour cotton candy and a marshmallow Kid)

No candy store would be complete without a bunch of merchandise and this one has plenty for children and adults alike, including t-shirts, tote bags, socks, lip balm, coffee mugs, pillows and umbrellas.  There are also several cool photo ops, including a yellow cab driven by a mischievous red Sour Patch Kid.

  1. That ice cream cone looks and sounds way over the top! As if the dressed cone weren't enough, topped with cotton candy too, wow. I'd be happy with just some ice cream...

    Did you buy any merchandise? I think I used to have sour patch lip balm back in high school from a Dylan's Candy Bar.

  2. It was definitely OTT! The ice-cream was delicious, just the right amount of sour between the sweet.
    I didn't get any merchandise besides the cute tin (see picture) but I was intrigued by the lip balm.
