The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

The Hunger Games saga continues with Katniss and other former victors being drawn back into the arena to mark the 75th anniversary of the games (but really a guise to get rid of Katniss who has become a symbol of hope for the oppressed districts and therefore a direct threat to the power of the Capitol).  However, this time the new head game maker, Plutarch, has ulterior motives that are designed to help Katniss, culminating with a brilliant twist at the end.  Once again, here are my best and worst parts of the film, followed by stand-out tracks from the soundtrack:

The Good

Effie's outfits (always a highlight), especially the dress covered in guinea fowl feathers, her giant ruffled collar for the reception at the presidential palace and the butterfly dress she wears for the reaping

Effie's wigs (so sickening they would turn Drag Race queens green with envy)

Speaking of fashion, Katniss's dress for the reception

Effie showing emotion for her team (and buying gifts for Haymitch and Peeta)

Finnick's outfit for the chariot parade

Katniss's virtual archery training

Katniss's wedding dress for the TV interview and its transformation into the mockingjay as she spins

Finnick resuscitating Peeta by giving him mouth-to-mouth

Katniss figuring out the island is designed like a clock

Katniss shooting the copper wire into the force field

The rescue

The Bad

President Snow's visit to Katniss's home

The storm trooper-wannabes killing the old man in District 11

The violent raid on District 12

Gale's public flogging

The re-reaping for the 75th anniversary of the Hunger Games

Cinna's beating seconds before Katniss enters the arena

The poisonous fog

Mags sacrificing herself by running into the fog

The killer baboons
