New Music: 7 Songs You Should Be Listening To

There has been a flood of fantastic new music recently so I thought I would share seven of my favorite songs at the moment.

Hard 2 Forget : Steps

Steps has given us an unending parade of bangers since their comeback in 2017 (see: Tears On The Dancefloor).  Hard 2 Forget is their latest single and will feature on The Platinum Collection, a greatest hits collection celebrating the group's 25th anniversary. They said the following about the track:  "The moment we heard it, we knew it had the DNA of a classic Steps song but with a modern edge.  We hope you all love it as much as we do!"

Free Yourself : Jessie Ware

As soon as I heard the song was co-produced by Clarence Coffee Jr (who has collaborated with Dua Lipa) and Stuart Price, I knew we were in for a disco-pop treat.  And I wasn't wrong!  NPR describes the song as "an effervescent, sequined nu-disco anthem that'll help you get your boogie on".  Definitely a summer anthem!

Hypnotized : Sophie Ellis Bextor

Always great to get new music from Sophie Ellis Bextor and the dancefloor diva does not disappoint with this piece of synth pop perfection.  She has said the following about the song:  “The best way I can describe it is it’s a little bit like ABBA on crack. It’s my favourite kind of wonky pop song. Fast paced, melodic and has a kind of ‘what did I just listen to?!’ brilliance to it, too."

Favourite : Bananarama

Perhaps not "new" since it was released three months ago as the lead single from their new album, Masquerade, but it's still a firm "favourite" on my 2022 playlist.  The Euro pop track is a stomping anthem that explores the heartbreak of being abandoned by a former lover.

Twisted Mind : Purple Disco Machine + Agnes

Agnes teamed up with German DJ Purple Disco Machine for this catchy, disco-infused track which appears on a deluxe edition of the latter's album, Exotica.

Neon Moon : Cody Belew & Dave Audé

A cover Brooks & Dunn song which sees country singer-songwriter Cody Belew teaming up with genius producer Dave Audé.  The result is a dancefloor-ready summer banger that takes a country classic to fabulous new heights.

Irrelevant : P!nk

P!nk wrote this powerful anthem in response to ongoing conservative attacks on human rights in the US, including the Supreme Court's recent decision on women's reproductive rights, stating:  “As a woman with an opinion and the fearlessness to voice that opinion, it gets very tiring when the only retort is to tell me how irrelevant I am...No one is irrelevant. And no one can take away my voice.”
