I was saddened by the news of Sinead O'Connor's passing and immediately revisited her discography in honor of her rich musical legacy. Like so many people, the video for Nothing Compares 2 U was my first introduction to Sinead O'Connor. Although I was a child at the time, I distinctly recall being mesmerized by this woman's soulful eyes, her shaved head and most of all, her pure and haunting voice. It remains an iconic video and song that defined her career, a career intertwined with activism, spirituality and controversy. She released ten studio albums between her debut in 1987 (The Lion And The Cobra) and 2014 (I'm Not Bossy, I'm The Boss) but sadly never reached the level of success of her earlier work.
May she rest in peace, finally free from the demons that haunted her for much of her life.
