P!nk : Summer Carnival

When you get a ticket to a P!nk show, you know you're in for a fucking good time.  In addition to the non-stop energy and powerful vocals, there are the jaw-dropping aerobatics to look forward to.  P!nk, a self-proclaimed "circus act",  told Woman's Magazine that her aerial performances are "exhilarating“ and that she's always "on the lookout for new cool things that you might not die from.”

P!nk brought her Summer Carnival extravaganza to Citi Field last week.  The Guardian outlined some of the show's highlights: "bangers, outlandish costumes, a pink grand piano, fireworks, steam or flame cannon, dancers doubling as a circus troupe or dressed as walking lips and even motorized pink flamingos".  It includes six of the best songs from her latest album, Trustfall, which reflect what she refers to as “the roller coaster of life.”  Besides the amazing tracks from Trustfall, she took the audience on an emotional and musical rollercoaster of hits spanning her 23-year-long career, from party bangers to moving acoustic songs and everything in between.  One of the highlights was her tribute to Sinead O'Connor, a performance of Nothing Compares 2 U with opening act, Brandi Carlile.

Brandi provided an incredible opening set, despite the fact that I struggled to see most of it because of inconsiderate people who kept obstructing my view while they were trying to find their seats - or leaving their seats within minutes of getting to said seats.  I have to say that the audience overall was annoying AF.  From the obnoxious Real Housewives of Long Island, who seemed to think that they were the only ones in the stadium, to the parents who brought their wriggling rugrats (one of which was next to me) to the steady stream of mindless morons who decided to stand at the top of the stairs leading up to the stands and block everyone's view.  Okay...rant over, now back to the show.

The opening song, Get The Party Started, which included samples of Eurythmics' Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) and Gonna Make You Sweat by C&C Music Factory, kicked off with P!nk perched inside a giant red lips with the words Summer Carnival in neon above.  She proceeded to display some of her aerial skills, singing sideways and upside down surrounded by flashing lights and images, creating a visually breathtaking experience that did not let up until the mind-blowing encore, which saw her flying and spinning around the stadium (while singing So What) in her famous and highly anticipated aerial stunt.
