Bright Light Bright Light Remixes

Welsh-born, NYC-based electro-pop singer/songwriter Bright Light Bright Light (Rod Thomas) is known for crafting live experiences that evoke an air of celebration and guarantee a lingering sense of queer joy.  According to his official website, he is “hugely influenced by music and cinema from the 80s and 90s” (yes please!) and creates music described as "cinematic glorious euphoria" (DJ Times Magazine) and "fabulous" (Elton John), while exuding "Working Girl-era realness" (Rolling Stone).  He is an independent artist whose amazing career is built on the human element of music, maintaining a direct, heartfelt dialogue with his fans both in person and online.

Beyond his top tier remixes for legends like Bananarama. Kate Pierson and Dannii Minogue, or his star-studded collaborations with the likes of Sir Elton John, Erasure and Scissor Sisters, many of his own standout tracks have been reimagined into shimmering dancefloor anthems that are right at home on any Pride playlist.  Here are my top 10 favorites:

10 |  Boys Etc. (Eric Kupper Remix Edit) This is a polished club take on a track about queer joy and embracing the desire to live fully in the moment, mixed by renowned American house music producer, remixer, DJ, and multi-instrumentalist Eric Kupper.

9 | Every Emotion Feat. Ultra Naté (Thomas CW Club Mix)
An electrifying remix of an exuberant collaboration with the iconic Ultra Naté that captures the spirit of the 90s dance floor.

8 | Moves (Vinny Vero & Steve Miglioni Remix)
A pulsating remix of an emotional song that focuses on lingering memories amidst the pain of a necessary separation. Moves appears on 2012’s Make Me Believe In Hope album.

7 | This Was My House (YSKWN! Catwalk Remix)
A high energy club mix of his ode to LGBTQ safe spaces featuring Niki Haris and Donna De Lory, renowned vocalists best known as Madonna's primary backup singers and dancers from 1987 to the early 2000s.

6 | Cold Sweat, Hot Boys with Ana Matronic (Thomas CW Move A Little Mix)
The mix featuring the fabulous Ana Matronic serves seductive dancefloor euphoria and is one of the standout tracks on BLBL’s latest EP, Duets.

5 | Disco Moment (Fear of Tigers Remix)
The track from Make Me Believe In Hope explores the contrast between seeing someone having the time of their life on a dancefloor and feeling emotionally detached from them; it gets a fabulous Fear of Tigers treatment to elevate it to an emotion-driven dancefloor banger.

4 | Uh Huh! With Tom Aspaul (Black Country Disco Mix)
A catchy reimagined version of the synth-pop smash Uh Huh! with queer disco-pop singer-songwriter and producer, Tom Aspaul which also appears on Duets.

3 | Being Sentimental (Ultravice Big Stache Remix)
I’m obsessed with the lush, 80s synth-pop textures underlying this mix! It’s one of four fan-made remixes of the song which Patreon superfans voted for to appear on a remix EP in 2021.

2 | Running Back To You Feat. Elton John (Cristian Poow Club Mixx)
This collaboration with the legendary Sir Elton John was already a masterpiece. However, Argentinian DJ Cristian Poow has completely reimagined the heartfelt anthem, cranking up the energy to transform it into a club banger.  Poow preserves the soul of the original while injecting a club-ready pulse that’s guaranteed to get you moving.

1 | Heartslap Feat. Mykal Kilgore (Dave Audé Remix)
You just know a remix is going to be top-tier when Dave Audé is behind it. This particular one featuring the super talented Mykal Kilgore appears on the Deluxe Edition of the highly acclaimed 2024 album Enjoy Youth and certainly slaps (pun intended!).
